Water Matters Competition Winners announced!

Happy Earth Day to everyone today. The theme for Earth Day 2021 is Restore Our Earth and all the school pupils who submitted entries to our Water Matters at home competition know very well that we need to protect water.  ‘Protect water, protect everything’ one pupil wrote.

We had superb entries and a big thanks goes out to all the school children who chatted with older adults to find out what they used water back in 1971!  As one of the pupils noted ‘a lot has changed in 50 years’.

The winning senior entry came from Scoil Naomh Erc, in Glenderry, Ballyheigue, Co Kerry who filmed a drama to illustrate the changes in how water is used in our homes in the last 50 years. Miss Monaghan submitted the entry and the children completed interviews, re-enactments and a poster to record the changes. Well done to all!

The winning junior entry came from Oatlands Primary School in Stillorgan, Dublin and Miss Kane submitted the entry from 3rd class who had worked over zoom for 2 weeks learning all about water. They submitted survey results and posters to show the need to protect our water resources.

Our runner up prize went to the very worthy submission from Danescastle NS, Carrig-on-Bannow in Co. Wexford whose teacher Ms Wallace submitted survey results and very creative artwork. The schools will be receiving their prizes in the coming weeks.

Well done to all involved.
