Concern for Ireland’s Waters

Recent research by NUI Galway  reported the presence of genetic markers for toxic bacteria in 49 out of 75 samples of recreational waters classed as good or excellent quality. This has prompted a response from the An Fóram Uisce on the need to take collective action to protect Ireland’s waters. The recent EPA report on the quality of Ireland’s waters highlights further overall declines in water quality in Ireland’s lakes and rivers.

We simply need to do more to protect our waters. The Government is currently undertaking a public consultation to identify the Significant Water Management Issues that impact on our water quality. To contribute to this consultation, visit www.dhplg.gov.ie with the closing date for submissions being 26th June 2020.
