Water Quality in Ireland 2013-2018

EPA report on the ecological health of Ireland’s rivers, lakes, canals, groundwaters, estuaries and coastal waters against standards and objectives set out in the EU Water Framework Directive and Ireland’s River Basin Management Plan 2018-2021.

The report finds that 52% of surface water bodies are at satisfactory ecological health (the EU WFD seeks to achieve satisfactory status in 100% of water bodies by 2027). This result shows a 2.6% decrease in overall ecological health of our waterways from the 2012-2015 results.
