River Basin Management Plan -Water Action Plan – Catchment reports are available on the EPA Catchments.ie website.
The EPA have carried out assessments to provide an overview of the situation in each of the catchments to support the identification of measures and actions to improve water quality in every waterbody. The objective is to achieve Good Ecological Status in all waterbodies.
Each of the Catchment Assessment Reports includes the following:
- A Water Quality Summary
- Details on High Status Objective waterbodies
- Water Quality Changes
- Significant Issues
- Significant Pressures
- Areas for Action
- An appendix with detailed waterbody scale information for all waterbodies in the catchment
They can be accessed at:
- Go to the catchments.ie Data page: https://www.catchments.ie/data/
- Type in the name of the catchment you are looking for in the Data search box, or click on the catchment you are interested in on the map of Ireland
- Once the page for your catchment is opened, you will see a link to the PDF of the Catchment Assessment
The Water Forum are currently engaging with Sectors who are developing their Sectoral Action Work Plans to address each of the sectoral pressures impacting on water quality (such as Agriculture, Wastewater, Forestry etc). These measures will underpin the actions included in the Catchment Management Work Plans that will include targeted measures to remove the pressures on each waterbody.
The Water Action Plan 2024-2027 has committed to developing 5 pilot Catchment Management Work Plans with a view to developing Catchment Management Plans for all of Ireland’s catchments in subsequent years.
