Consultation on SDG Implementation Plan is ongoing

The United Nations 2030 Agenda encourages countries to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into planning and policy, on both a national and international level. As a whole-of-government initiative overseen by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications, each Minister has responsibility for implementing individual SDG targets related to their functions.

The Second SDG National Implementation Plan is now being developed. This will set out arrangements for interdepartmental coordination, stakeholder engagement and actions needed for further SDG Implementation from 2021 to 2023.

A fundamental feature when developing the National Implementation Plan is listening to and integrating the voice of stakeholders. This approach is reflective of the fact that the SDGs belong to everybody and that governments will need to work in partnership with society to achieve the Goals.

The ongoing online consultation aims to:

  • Assess the awareness of, and engagement with, the Sustainable Development Goals
  • Establish general opinion on progress made to date
  • Seek feedback and recommendations to inform the drafting and development of the next National Implementation Plan
